History
South View Primary School was formed from the merger of Nam San School and Ama Keng School in March 1990.
Nam San School was established after the Second World War on 2 February 1946. Students had lessons in three separate locations: a temple, a wayang (opera) stage and a warehouse. The initial student population was a mere 157.
In June 1946, Mr Ong Koh Bee, a community leader, initiated a fundraising project to build a proper school building. Villagers contributed generously towards the fund. Eventually $13,000 was raised, together with a donation of 1.75 acres of land. By 27 March 1947, the school building with five classrooms was completed at 12 milestone Choa Chu Kang Road.
The first batch of 12 students completed their primary school education in 1948. The School Management Committee was formed in 1954, with Mr Ong Koh Bee as its first chairman. Over the next four years, the school building expanded and facilities were upgraded to cater to a growing enrolment. By the late 1960s, Nam San Branch School was founded and the total student population for the main and branch schools had grown to 1,087.
By 1975, another fundraising project was launched to build a bigger school, and $600,000 was raised. A new three-storey building with 20 classrooms was completed in 1977.
Ama Keng School started in September 1951. Its first building comprised three single-storey blocks. A four-storey block of 12 classrooms and a hall-cum-canteen were built in 1973 to cater for the increased enrolment. The school was declared open on 23 June 1973.
During the 1970s, Ama Keng School became an integrated school offering two language streams and a Chinese-medium class was started. By the 1980s, however, Chinese-medium classes were phased out.
In March 1990, Nam San School and Ama Keng School merged and formed South View Primary School and moved to its present site at 6 Choa Chu Kang Central.
